Stacking Rings 101: Style, Sizing & Care
Share
There’s something about stacking rings that just feels right — they bring confidence, a little sparkle, and a lot of personality into your every day. A fresh set of nails with a row of silver or gold bands can feel like instant self-care, a way to carry your style with you wherever you go. Every ring we make is handmade from scratch in our Austin studio — a personal process that ensures each piece is crafted with care, intention, and attention to detail. We size each band individually, because thin stacking rings fit differently than thicker bands, and your comfort is as important as the look. With every size possible, you can build a stack that’s balanced, personal, and made to feel as good as it looks.
Do’s of Stacking Rings
- Mix textures and finishes — smooth silver bands look amazing next to cast or hammered designs.
- Balance bold and dainty — let one statement ring shine, then frame it with slimmer stacks.
- Play with different fingers — mix and match across hands for a natural, effortless look.
- Experiment with metals — silver, gold-filled, and bronze together give your stack a modern edge with a personal touch.
- Layer with meaning — stack rings that tell your story, like gifts, heirlooms, or handmade favorites.
- Think about proportions — mix thinner bands with one thicker anchor ring for balance.
- Have fun with it — stacking rings are one of the easiest ways to change up your look daily.
Don’ts of Stacking Rings
- Overcrowd every finger — leaving some space creates balance and comfort.
- Ignore comfort — rings should slide on easily and feel good all day.
- Wear delicate stacks to the gym or during heavy work — keep them safe from scratches and bends.
- Skip ring sizing — remember thin bands fit looser than thick ones, so size accordingly.
- Mix with self-tanner or heavy lotions — they can leave residue that dulls silver and gold-filled finishes.
- Sleep in bulky stacks — it can warp shapes over time and feel uncomfortable.
Forget about care — polish and store them properly to keep stacks shining.
Finding Your Ring Size
Getting the right fit is one of the most important parts of building a stack you’ll actually love wearing. Here are our tips:
-
Measure at the right time
The best time to measure your finger is at the end of the day when your hands are warm, since fingers naturally change size throughout the day.
-
Use a proper sizing tool
We don’t recommend the string method, as it can be unreliable. Instead, use a proper ring sizing tool — our pull-through plastic sizer is easy to use and accurate when used correctly. You can order one here: Ring Sizing Tool
-
Mind the fit
We don’t suggest rings that feel too tight, though for pinky rings — which tend to be lost most often — a snug fit is best.
-
Account for band width
Thinner bands often feel a little looser than thicker ones in the same size. That’s why we offer quarter sizes in our thinner styles — sometimes the smallest adjustment creates the perfect fit.
-
Consider climate and travel
If you’re traveling to Texas, the warmer weather, flights, or margaritas may cause your fingers to swell a bit, while colder climates can make them feel slimmer. Many of our customers like to keep a few rings in multiple sizes, or even a “summer set” and a “winter set,” just to have the right size on hand.

When to Take Off Your Rings
- Swimming (chlorine and salt can dull finishes).
- Exercising or lifting heavy weights.
- Doing activities that put pressure on your hands, like yoga or pilates.
- Adventuring outdoors — paddle boarding, hiking with poles, or spending the day at the beach.
- Applying lotions, perfume, or self-tanner
(they can leave buildup or discolor metal).
